The inaugural Australia-Vietnam Young Leadership Dialogue will be held in Sydney in May 2017, involving 20 delegates from Australia and Vietnam along with various speakers and partners from diverse sectors including business, education, policy, non-for-profit, startups and the arts.
To apply, you must meet the following:
- Aged between 25-35 years old;
- Have a demonstrated interest in Australia or Vietnam;
- Fluent in English; and
- Be able to obtain a visa and travel to Sydney in Australia for 14-18 May, 2017.
Note: You don’t need to be of Vietnamese ethnicity to participate. We are open to anyone with an interest in Australia-Vietnam relations or an interest in Australia-Southeast Asia relations. For further clarifications on the eligibility, please read our FAQ blog post or check out the general FAQ.
The Australia-Vietnam Young Leadership Dialogue is more than just a conference. When a delegate attend the dialogue in full, they become part of our alumni network, which opens to plenty of other leadership opportunities and support.

December 2016 – January 2017: Shortlisted applicants are invited to interviews.
Late January, 2017: Selected delegates and shortlisted applicants are notified of outcome.
Mid February 2017: Announcement of the inaugural Australia-Vietnam Young Leadership Dialogue delegates of 2017.

Delegates will have a chance to learn about new topics from keynote speakers and panellists, as well as share their opinions to relevant policymakers, business and non-for-profit leaders.

Meet, learn and build deep, long-term relationships with fellow delegates, speakers, supporters and other stakeholders.
Collaborate on ideas
Delegates will brainstorm new or discuss about existing ideas at the Dialogue with their fellow delegates. With the support of AVYLD and its network, alumni (delegates who attended the dialogue in full) will collaborate and help each other on initiatives they’re working on, particularly cross-border projects.
Funding support for your initiative
Once an alumni initiative has adequate traction, AVYLD can help by identifying funding opportunities via its strategic partners and broader network to help these initiatives become more financially-sustainable.

AVYLD creates and amplifies long-term, positive change through its delegates and their initiatives. AVYLD expects its alumni to proactively contribute positively to their community and pay-it-forward to the next generation of young leaders either through AVYLD or the broader community.
Demonstrated existing leadership qualities;
Potential for significant impact in their country in the next 15 years;
Current or proposed initiatives with ties to Australia or Vietnam – whichever is not the delegate’s country of birth;
Commitment to participate in AVYLD activities; and
References or letter(s) of support from the community you represent.
