Victoria to become home of the 2024 Australia Vietnam Young Leadership Dialogue

MEDIA RELEASE

10 January 2023

The Australia Vietnam Leadership Dialogue (AVLD) is pleased to announce a new two-year partnership with the Victorian Government through Global Victoria to strengthen the Victoria-Vietnam engagement through people-to-people links.

Victorian Minister for Trade and Investment Tim Pallas today announced a partnership with AVLD to deliver the Australia Vietnam Young Leadership Dialogue in 2023 and 2024 at a Study Melbourne Hub event in Ho Chi Minh City.

Mr Pallas said the program will help to build strong relationships and create business opportunities in Vietnam.

“Victoria’s international presence delivers new trade and investment opportunities that create jobs back home,” Mr Pallas said.

“This strategic partnership with AVLD will allow us to deepen connections across a range of areas including education and technology and showcase our state in Vietnam.”

The Dialogue is AVLD’s signature program which brings together 20 influential, visionary and talented delegates under 35 from Australia and Vietnam. The next generation of leaders from both nations will embark upon a transformative experience towards stronger partnership for innovation and collaboration across mutually beneficial priority areas, strengthening our people-to-people links.

The 2023 Dialogue will take place in Vietnam, with Victoria set to host the 2024 Dialogue in Melbourne for the first time since the program’s inception in 2017.

AVLD Board Chair, Dr Melissa Jardine, welcomed Global Victoria’s support as headline sponsor, saying it comes at a crucial time in the Australia-Vietnam relationship.

“Victoria has been a leading force in forging closer ties between Asia and Australia through education, trade and investment. As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Australia-Vietnam diplomatic relations this year, there has never been a more important time to develop, support and engage young leaders from both countries to ensure we construct a sustainable future where everyone can thrive,” Dr Jardine said.

AVLD Patron in Vietnam, Madam Ton Nu Thi Ninh, shared that “moving forward from the historic milestone of the 50th anniversary of Australia - Viet Nam diplomatic relations, let us make sure youth on both sides - Australian and Vietnamese - are empowered as creative and effective drivers of this important relationship into the future.”

Speaking at the event, AVLD 2017 alumni and Vice President – Business Development at Imex Pan Pacific Group (IPPG), Mr Phillip Nguyen, shared: “Through the Dialogue and AVLD network, I was able to build incredible links with people who share similar values and want to make the world a better place. It helped me refine my thinking in terms of social and business challenges and collaborate to decipher different solutions for them.”
